+From the beginning, God loved to be with His people. He enjoyed walking with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8).
+Yet because of sin, Adam and Eve were separated from God. While they could still communicate with Him, they could not see His face. God placed an angel with a flaming sword to prevent them from returning to Eden (Genesis 3:24).
+People could still choose to have a close relationship with God. Enoch walked with God until God took him without dying (Genesis 5:24). Noah walked with God (Genesis 6:9). God wanted Abram to walk before Him and be blameless (Genesis 17:1); Abraham was the friend of God (James 2:23).
+When the Israelites were slaves in Egypt, God promised to deliver them. He said, "I will take you as My people, and I will be your God" (Exodus 6:7). God did deliver them and wanted to live among His people, so He asked them to build a sanctuary for Him (Exodus 25:8). God promised to dwell among them (Exodus 29:45). He said "I will set my tabernacle among you... I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall by my people" (Leviticus 26:11-12). When the tabernacle was completed, "the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle" (Exodus 40:34).
+After the Israelites' experience of the golden calf, God indicated that they should move on without Him. Moses interceded for them and pleaded with God to remain with them until God finally promised, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest" (Exodus 33:14). But when Moses asked to see God's glory, God told Him, "You cannot see my face; for no man shall see Me, and live" (Exodus 33:20).
+God's plan was to live among the Israelites so that they would be a light to other nations. They did not have the light, but God was their light. He was there between the cherubim of the ark in the Most Holy Place (Psalm 80:1). The pillar of cloud and of fire showed that God was with them and leading them (Numbers 10:34). This light (God's character shining through them) would attract other nations to God (Deuteronomy 4:6).
+One of Jesus' names was Immanuel, which means "God with us" (Matthew 1:23).
+And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
+Jesus became human to help us better understand God. He chose to become one of us and to live among us. And when He returned to finish His work in the heavenly sanctuary, He gave us the Holy Spirit so that He could continue to dwell in our hearts (John 14:16; Ephesians 3:16-17; Romans 8:9). Jesus promises to abide in us as we abide in Him (John 15:4).

+We do not have to wait until we see God's face to have Him with us and in us. "For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones" (Isaiah 57:15). What a privilege that God wants to live with us!
+In some marriages, the spouse leaves when the money dries up. In other marriages, the relationship is more important than the money. Having each other with little is more important than having much. God loves us and He wants to be with us and He wants a relationship with us.

+And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. Revelation 21:3
+The climax of God's mission is being face to face with God, and being in His actual presence. We will "see His face" someday. Revelation 22:4 God is eager to walk with us in the garden as He did with Adam and Eve.
